Community Initiatives project 2018 concluded successfully with a final workshop

On December 4th, 2018,T&C Consulting and Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical LLC (NSRP) in collaboration with Tinh Gia District People’s Committee  organized the final workshop of Community Initiatives project (CI) 2018 at Tinh Gia District, Thanh Hoa Province. The workshop aimed at evaluating the results and lessons-learnt during the implementation process as well as proposing and discussing the project implementation plan in the next phase.

 

CI project was implemented from March to December 2018 in 4 fence-line villages, including: Bac Yen village (Hai Yen commune), Trung Son village (Tinh Hai commune), Tan Thanh and Ban Cat villages (Mai Lam commune). This is one of the projects within NSRP Strategic Social Investment Program which is implemented by T&C Consulting, to promote and empower the community in the development and implementation of feasible initiatives towards improving livelihood and well-being conditions and strengthening the community solidarity.

 

Attendants at the workshop were representatives of Tinh Gia District People’s Committee, Tinh Gia DoLISA, District Agriculture and Rural Development Department, Commune People’s Committes of Hai Yen, Mai Lam and Tinh Hai Communes, the CI Fund Management Boards of 4 villages, community groups, T&C Consulting and Social and Community Section – NSRP.

 

At the workshop, participants were presented the report on project implementation results, lessons-learnt from using loans from the CI Fund by T&C Consulting and representatives of community groups. Specifically, the project has established 4 village CI Funds in 4 project fence-line villages, disbursed the loan for 18 common interest groups (CIG) to develop livelihood, including 89 households, with a total amount over VND900 million. The project also granted 6 non-refundable initiatives with a total amount of VND200 million, of which the community contributed nearly VND50 million, accounting for nearly 25% of the total funding for these initiatives, and benefiting 1,359 households in 4 project villages.

 

CIG’s member shared experiences in using CI Fund effectively.

 

In addition, the project has also contributed to improving the capacity, knowledge and understanding of CI management boards’ members and CIG members on management of CI Fund and effective group management. The project activities promoted the community participation, the local ownership through the application of a participatory approach, enhanced the voluntariness of individuals to ensure the sustainability of interventions with limited budget resource.

 

Speaking at the final workshop, Mr. Le The Ky – Vice Chairman of Tinh Gia District People’s Committee, affirmed: “The results of the CI project achieved in the past time were highly appreciated by the leaders of Tinh Gia district and 3 project communes. With the innovative and humanistic approach, the project have contributed significantly to poverty reduction in the project area and improving the lives of local people. In coming time, I propose NSRP and T&C Consulting to replicate the effective models of project in other communes within Tinh Gia district so more people can benefit from the project.

In the next phase, the project will continue to develop the achieved results in the first phase, focusing on integrating CI Funds with the other livelihood projects and supporting CIGs on implementing market-links with potential businesses.
